Style is something that is ever evolving, and the start of a new year is a perfect time to make wardrobe changes. With style comes a long list of arbitrary rules and best practices. One of those is wearing white. I’m a Southern girl, and growing up the hard and fast rule was no white after Labor Day. I never wore much white anyway, but I was conscious and abided by this role for years. The older I get, the more lax I am about rule following. I also think there’s something cool about being bold enough to wear white in winter.
It stands out, it’s crisp and clean, and tends to draw attention. These are my tips for wearing white in winter.
Wear 2 Different Shades of White
I love a monochrome moment, and dressing in head to toe white can instantly make you look more put together. Wear 2 different shades of white. My joggers are a darker shade of white than my sweatshirt. It’s such a small shade difference that unless you pay close attention it’s hard to notice. However, by wearing different shades of white I help balance out the look.
Keep It Casual
I think one area where people struggle with styling is they try to do too much. I kept this outfit casual, wearing a sweatshirt and joggers. It’s perfect if you’re staying in and want to look put together or working from home. If you’re going out this is perfect for running errands or a casual brunch. When you wear all white everyone will know that you put in some effort. Nobody rolls out of bed and wears all white.
Add a Pop Of Color
A top with detailing or trimmed in color will add a bit more depth to your look. In this instance it’s a bit of green and white. It’s colorful enough to be noticeable, but doesn’t distract from the overall monochrome. It gives people something else to focus on besides the fact that you’re wearing all white.
