I read once that when it comes to makeup eyes will get you noticed, but skin will get you paid. I have to say I agree. When it comes to makeup my primary focus is flawless skin. If your skin looks good, everything else is extra. I’m a soft glam girly at heart, so my primary focus when doing my makeup is how my skin looks. Today I’m sharing the best foundations for combo skin, and how I use them.
The Best Foundations for Combo Skin
I’ve tried countless foundations over the years. These are my tried and true favorites as of late. I have combination skin, so oil control and staying power are two big things I look for when picking a base. I prefer a medium buildable coverage, full coverage tends to look cakey in my opinion.
Urban Decay Stay Naked Foundation
This is my holy grail desert island foundation. This will last through ANYTHING. True story I was wearing this during a summer photoshoot once and almost passed out from the heat. Despite being a sweat mess at the end of it and needing to sit in the car to cool off, my makeup didn’t budget. I wear this in all my blog photos, and anytime I want my makeup to last all day. I take the shade 71WY.
Fenty Pro’Filt’r Soft Matte Foundation
Like most of the beauty junkies I know, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Rihanna’s products when Fenty Beauty launched. I tend to side-eye celebrity brands, but I stood corrected. This foundation checks all my boxes. A medium buildable coverage, it’s one of the best shade matches I have. It’s perfect for a glam night out but looks like skin. I wear shade 420.
Fenty Eaze Drop Blurring Tint
Sticking with the Fenty family, this skin tint is my favorite for warmer weather. Light on the skin and gives just enough coverage to be effective. Good for a few hours are daytime use. I wear the shade 20.
Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter
So this product is controversial. People seem to love it or hate it. Personally I love it. I use it by itself when I want a no makeup makeup look. It helps even out skin tone and gives a nice healthy glow to the skin. I also use it as a color correcting primer under my lighter coverage foundations. I am in the shade 7.
Nars Sheer Glow Foundation
The O.G. These days most makeup brands have an extensive inclusive shade range. Nars was making foundation for dark skin before it was cool, and really taking into consideration undertone and shade variation. Sheer glow has medium but buildable coverage, and looks like skin. It has staying power and will last thru the day without touch ups. I wear the shade Marquises.
These are my most reached for foundations. As you can see my preference is medium but buildable coverage, that looks like skin. I know for us combo skin peeps there tends to be a fine line between glow and grease; these foundations stay on the glow side. I also like for my skin to look like skin. If you like to have a flawless base with a healthy luminous glow, these are the products for you.
