A few weeks ago I polled my Instagram followers about what they wear to the airport. I had a work trip coming up, and I was trying to figure out what I wanted to wear. I got alot of responses, and the overall theme was that everyone wanted to be comfortable and low maintenance. When I was putting together my travel outfit for my trip, these are the two themes I kept in mind.
What To Wear To The Airport
I talk alot but the importance of looking put together. I feel my best when I am put together, regardless of the day or where I’m headed. The airport is no exception. Most people don’t get dressed to the 9’s to fly anymore. Too much hassle considering air travel is anything but glamourous these days. That doesn’t mean you should look like you just rolled out of bed.
My Airport Outfit Formula
Th easiest way to get dressed for a flight is to follow this formula. Top+ pants and comfortable shoes. I’m not a fan of wearing dresses or skirts when flying. I’ve gotten flagged a few times and had the awkward pat down by TSA. If I do get flagged I like knowing there is a full layer of clothing between me and the TSA employee’s hands.
I also like wearing long pants on flights. I wouldn’t consider myself a germaphobe, but we all know planes and airports are high traffic dirty places that don’t get cleaned much. I prefer to keep the contact my bare skin makes with surfaces to a minimum.
I like breathable, light fabric t-shirts for flights. Solid color or striped tees like this one. As far as pants I don’t want something as rigid as jeans but not quite a legging. Joggers are the perfect medium. I like having pants with pockets when I travel. These joggers are my got to lately. The extra high waist style works well for my long torso.
What Shoes To Wear To The Airport
Sneakers are the only shoes I wear to the airport. Easy to slip on and off, comfortable, and perfect for walking long distances. Save your fancy sneakers for your destination, I like to wear my trusty Stan Smiths for the airport. I keep it sleek with the all white version.
Adjusting Your Outfit For The Season
I had a short flight, so I didn’t bother wearing a jacket. Planes tend to get cold so if you’re sensitive to temperature add a jacket or cardigan. I wore short sleeves because it is still summer and it was a million degrees in Atlanta. As the temp cools off swap the tshirt for a henley or sweatshirt. Let me know what you wear on your next flight!
