I’ve recommended products before but I haven’t talked about my skincare routine yet. I’ve always been into skincare. I was scrubbing off layers of my skin with the St. Ives Apricot scrub back in the day. My products may have changed, but my love of skincare has stayed. I change my products up fairly often, so I figured I would show what I’m using right now. Let’s go over my skincare routine for combination skin.
Skincare Routine for Combination Skin
I have combination skin: I’m oily in the t-zone and normal to dry on the rest of my face. I’m also acne prone and have concerns with hyperpigmentation and whiteheads. All of the products I use are geared towards my skin type and skin concerns.
Cleansers
I’m rotating between 3 cleaners right now. A cleansing oil, balm, and a foam based cleanser.
DHC Cleansing Oil – My everyday cleanser. I use this day and night.
Milk Hydro Ungrip Cleansing Balm – My current favorite cleansing balm for removing makeup. I double cleanse when I wear makeup and use this as my first cleanse. It breaks down makeup wonderfully.
Panoxyl Creamy Wash– I use this a few times a week to help with my acne. It has benzoyl peroxide and helps clean pores and fight bacteria. The key is to leave it on at least 2 minutes to get the full benefits.
Tea Tree Water– Toner is controversial but it is a must for me. I tone after cleansing to remove any remaining traces of makeup and dirt and helps keep my skin balanced.
Eye Creams
Another controversial product, but one I can’t let go of. I think eye creams/gel help my eye area, so I rotate between a couple of them. My main concern is hydration and bags, so my eye creams are geared towards keeping my undereye area moisturized and depuffed.
Dermalogica Depuffing Eye Gel – I use this in the mornings after toner.
It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye – I use this eye cream at night to help brighten my under eye area.
Treatments
I rotate between a few different treatments depending on what my skincare concern is at that moment.
Azelaic Acid – I use this in the mornings as needed. It helps with texture issues and acne scarring.
Good Genes Lactic Acid Treatment – I use this at night, 3x a week at most. It makes my skin more luminous and evens out my skin tone.
Sunday Riley Retinoid Serum – The older I get the more I realize how important retinol is. The nights I don’t use lactic acid I use a retinoid serum. Retinol helps with cell turnover, evening out your skin tone and reducing the appearance of scars, fine lines, and sun damage.
Moisturizers & Sunscreen
Last but certainly not least, how I finish off my skincare routine. One thing I’ve noticed is that people tend to think combination and oily skin doesn’t need moisture. This couldn’t be further from the truth. The skin still needs to be balanced and the right moisturizer will help keep it hydrated, slowing down oil production.
Hope in a Jar Glow Moisturizer – My new go to daytime moisturizer. I like water creams because they are light but still hydrating.
Clinique Moisture surge Intense – This is my nighttime moisturizer. I actually bought this by accident and kept repurchasing it. This is a thick moisturizer, and a little goes a long way. I’ve found that in the warmer weather my skin needs more hydration and this does the trick.
Unseen Sunscreen – Last but not least, my sunscreen of choice. This is worth every penny and goes on clear. It doesn’t leave a white cast and lays beautifully on the skin. I wear this every single day regardless of whether I am going outside or not. Sun damage will age you like nobody’s business, and the easiest most effective way to combat that is sunscreen.
There you have it. Everything I have been using as of late for my skin. As the seasons and my skins needs change, I will rotate products. These products are perfect for combination skin.
